The King of the Trees

  The trees in the forest were looking for a king to rule them. They went to the olive tree and asked it to be the king.
  "Why should I be your king?" asked the olive tree. "Humans use me to honor both God and other men. I have no need to be the king of the trees."
  So the trees went away and found a fig tree. "Come to our forest and be our king," they said to the fig tree.
  "Why should I be your king?" asked the fig tree. "I do not want to leave my sweet fruits to go to rule over a bunch of trees."
  The trees found a vine and said, "Come to our forest and be our king."
  The vine responded, "Why should I be your king? I produce grapes which make wine. Wine pleases both God and men. I have no need to be the king of the trees."
  The trees went away and then found a thorn bush. "Come to our forest and be our king," they said. The thorn bush said, "If you really want me to be your king, then come and grow in my shadow."

 

Moral: We always get what we want. But what we want might not always be good for us.
